Rewind: Live blog for 'American Idol' Top 7 performances

The "American Idol" Top 7 tackled "inspirational songs" Tuesday night, with Alicia Keys serving as the mentor. We live blogged the show. Here's how the evening unfolded:

5:00 - "This ... is 'American Idol!'"

5:01 - Who will liven things up tonight as well as give us the loyal "Idol Moment"? And will Ryan Seacrest act weird again tonight? We shall see ...

5:02 - Ryan introduces the "Princess of Soul," Alicia Keys, the coach for the Top 7 tonight.

5:04 - The initial singer tonight is Casey James. He'll take upon "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac. He's groan upon the electric guitar this week, with the goofy grin plastered upon his face. Hey the guitar solo! The rumor was which he's suffering from the cold as well as during times his outspoken sounds raspier than usual. Good, though not good tonight.
Randy: "It was the good performance, though not your best. Give me the little something else."
Ellen: "Great guitar playing. we consider we have to be good right now, as well as it wasn't great."
Kara: "[You're] not showng us what creates we different."
Simon: "That wasn't quite moving - 0 emotion. we suspicion it was the quiescent strain choice."

5:12 - Lee DeWyze gets the No. 2 container tonight. He's singing "The Boxer" by Simon & Garfunkel. Wow, what the classic. Tough strain to sing given so many people recollect the original, implausible version. Boy, this one is tough for me: during times it seemed to swap between boring as well as truly inspirational.
Randy: "I consider you're starting to have the large career. Very nice."
Ellen: "We're saying improved as well as improved from you."
Kara: "I consider we had your impulse tonight with which performance. Keep picking things we feel connected to."
Simon: "The difference between we as well as the initial opening is staggering. Sincere. Absolutely brilliant."

5:22 - Tim Urban is up next. Will he continue his extraordinary run to the title? He's singing "Better Days" by the Goo Goo Dolls. And it's fine. Not spectacular, though pretty decent.
Randy: "It only sounded OK."
Ellen: "You're similar to the soup of the day. Today we didn't similar to the soup."
Kara: "It wasn't most appropriate execution."
Simon: "But it was the little bit of the letdown."

5:28 - Aaron Kelly has been singing "I Believe we Can Fly" given he was 5 years old. How can he make this sound different? After the initial few notes, it's pretty much the carbon copy of the original. Here's the thing about Aaron: we still say he's got the really good voice, though he has the lot to do as distant as being the real *performer*. His vocals were technically good tonight, though there's some-more to it than that.
Randy: "You definitely have pure outspoken talent. Good job."
Ellen: "That was the tough strain though we rubbed it."
Aaron: "By the finish it was like, all right, he got there."
Simon: "It wasn't really good, though we kind of made it quite good."

5:38 - Siobhan Magnus is singing "When You Believe" my Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston, final achieved in Season 7 by David Archuleta. we similar to her take upon this strain - her large voice is tailor-made for such the large song. Might be my the one preferred opening by her.
Randy: "It was only OK for me."
Ellen: "I disagree."
Kara: "It started to feel really dramatic. we still don't know who we are."
Simon: "I agree with Randy. we found the total thing to be the bit all over the place."
[I gotta remonstrate with the judges upon this one. What did we think?]

5:46 - OK we've got dual singers left tonight. First up is Michael Lynche. He is singing "Hero" by Chad Kroeger. This only sounds pretty unspiring for me. It's similar to he wasn't really into it tonight. we consider he could be in difficulty tomorrow ...
Randy: "You hold you! r own wi th it - It worked out."
Ellen: "I suspicion we did the good job."
Kara: "It was all over as well as the strain became unrecognizable."
Simon: "It felt the little bit artificial for me." [Thanks for carrying my back, Simon!]

5:53 - The closer purpose tonight goes to Crystal Bowersox. She's starting but an instrument tonight, Ryan says, for the initial time. She's singing "People Get Ready" by The Impressions. She could spike this ... She's the cappella for the initial integrate lines, as well as she sounds great! Here vocals have been great, though we've come to expect which from Crystal. She broke down during the finish of the song.
Randy: "Unbelievable. [Gives standing O]"
Ellen: "You've never looked some-more beautiful."
Kara: "You only schooled all those contestants."
Simon: "That was inspirational. You sang it fantastically. To me it was in utterly opposite class than anything else we've heard tonight."

What did we consider of tonight's performances?

Here's my ranking, from most appropriate to worst:

Climb Any Mountain

- Crystal Bowersox
- Lee DeWyze

I Will Survive

- Siobhan Magnus
- Aaron Kelly
- Casey James

Livin' upon the Prayer

- Michael Lynche
- Tim Urban
