Seattle Peace Chorus plans 2 Earth Day-themed shows

'Peace to a Planet'

Thursday, a 40th anniversary of Earth Day, is something to shout about ... or, even better, sing. That's what a Seattle Peace Chorus plans to do twice this week, in shows described as "a multiple of unison as well as environmental-action fair." The module includes songs from South Africa, Brazil as well as other spots around a globe, along with a reprise of SPC inventive executive Frederick West's oratorio "Upon This Land" for chorus, percussion ensemble, brass quintet as well as stand in winds, creatively stoical for a 20th anniversary of Earth Day.

Featured soloists are Alexandra Picard (soprano), Tessa Studebaker (alto), Sid Law (tenor), as well as Charles Robert Stephens (baritone). Also upon a roster: "a call to ecological action" by Kathy Fletcher, founder-executive of People for Puget Sound.

7:30 p.m. Thursday, Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave., Seattle, as well as 3 p.m. Sunday, Bastyr University Chapel, 14500 Juanita Drive N.E., Kenmore; both concerts are $13-$20 (information: www.seattlepeacechorus.org; tickets: 800-838-3006 or www.brownpapertickets.com).
